Telemundo Center

The new sleek, futuristic, and minimalist style of the Telemundo Center in Miami, FL, represents the future of Telemundo Enterprises in Spanish-language TV and the media industry in general. Combining offices, TV news, sports, and production soundstages into one 476,000 sqft facility, Telemundo’s new headquarters is a glimpse into the future of mixed-use space meant to unify corporate, news, and creative from several widely scattered locations across the US.

The new headquarters is environmentally friendly, and is designed to meet demanding sustainability, safety, and efficiency standards, utilizing many design elements often used in LEED-certified buildings – it can even sustain a Category 5 hurricane. The building is divided into ‘neighborhoods’ with activity based workstations and named after countries in Telemundo’s viewing area, fostering a sense of belonging for the up to 1,500 employees and encouraging collaboration and innovation.

“We want to create a sense of community here, internally and externally,” said Monica Gil, executive vice-president of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “There’s a sense of pride here.”

This open plan was essential to the design of the building – and Telemundo also wanted to be able to adapt as their needs changed – so they chose to use raised access floors to maximize flexibility and minimize the impact of churn. Using raised access floors also meant that they could use underfloor service distribution (UFSD), running the data and power cables in the void beneath the access floor to maintain the slick, spare design. And the access floor was not just utilitarian – the choice of STONEWORKS™ Classic Concrete panels ensured that the modern building design was a feature from floor to ceiling.

“Telemundo Center is the only facility that can fuel the preferences and demands of (the) dynamic (Latino) audience, while driving unlimited growth and opportunity for our company, our employees and our community for years to come,” stated Cesar Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and NBCUniversal International Group. By choosing to use raised access floors in their new headquarters, Telemundo Enterprises affirms their commitment to future-proofing their workplace and ensures that the building will remain functional and beautiful for years to come.
